Overview

The MY 1116 locomotive was part of the iconic NOHAB series, delivered to DSB in 1956. Built under license from EMD, these locomotives were designed for both passenger and freight service across Denmark. Known for their reliability and distinctive design, the NOHAB units have become true classics in Scandinavian railway history.

History

  • Arrival: Entered service at Helsingør on June 16, 1956.
  • Service: Operated on both Western and Eastern divisions between 1956 and 1986.
  • Upgrades: Equipped with ribbed exhaust on the roof from 1960 to 1981; received design livery in 1982.
  • Reassignments: Regularly moved between East and West regions, last based in the West from 1986 to 1995.
  • Accidents: Derailed in Odense on May 7, 1990.
  • Retirement: Officially decommissioned in 1995.
  • Post-service: Used for fire drills in Herning (1995), stored in Aarhus (1997–1999), later sold to PBS MY 1116 in 1999.
  • Scrapped: Broken up in Tønder in 2000.
