The MY1126 was part of the renowned NOHAB series, produced under license from EMD starting in 1949. These locomotives were inspired by the Australian B Class design but tailored for European standards, including a narrower clearance gauge and UIC-compliant features. NOHAB locomotives were deployed by state railways in Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Hungary, with many still in operation on private railways across Europe, such as in Germany, Sweden, and Kosovo.

Operational History

• Arrival in Denmark: Delivered to Helsingør on 31 August 1957. Featured a reversed winged wheel emblem on the front.
• Service Zones:
  • Operated in the Eastern region (1957–78), featuring ITC equipment starting in 1974.
  • Repainted with the iconic Danish design livery in 1978.
  • Alternated between East (1978–86, 1988–92, 1996–97) and West (1986–88, 1992–96, 1997–2000) zones.
• Special Modifications & Roles:
  • Used for ATCS test runs in 1989–90.
  • Graffiti-style paint applied in 1988.
  • Renamed Nikita in 1994 after a workshop manager's daughter. Underwent environmental renovations the same year.
  • Equipped with ranger platforms in 1995 and ATC in 1996.
• International Leasing: Leased to NSB during the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer.

Later Years

• Decommissioning: Retired from active DSB service in 2000.
• Transfers & Preservation:
  • Stored in Århus before being transferred to Gråsten in 2000.
  • Exchanged with MY1105 and donated to the Danish Railway Club (GM Group) in 2002.
  • Stored at Padborg (2003–10) and later moved to Hundested (2010–22).

Current Status

MY1126 remains operational as of 2024, continuing to be a treasured example of NOHAB’s engineering legacy.
