Diesel Locomotive TMY106 (Tågab/Great Northern) (Former DSB MY1103)

Overview:
TMY106, originally DSB MY 1108, is part of the NOHAB series built under EMD license in 1956 by Nydqvist & Holm AB (later Bofors-Nohab AB) in Trollhättan, Sweden (Serial No. 2322). These locomotives were based on the Australian B Class, adapted for European standards with a narrower gauge and UIC-compliant features. Widely used by state railways in Denmark, Norway, Belgium, and Hungary, many NOHAB locomotives remain active today on private railways across Europe.

Specifications:

  • Engine: GM 16-567C diesel-electric motor
  • Bogie Distance: 10.3 m
  • Bogie Wheelbase: 2 m

History:

  • Acquired by Tågab: Purchased in 1999 from DSB MY 1108.
  • Great Northern Livery: Repainted in 1999 for a film role in Dancer in the Dark.
  • Service Locations: Seen in Kristinehamn during 2009–2011 and again in 2022.
  • Scraped: In recent years, the machine was left in Kristinehamn until its scrapping in Nykroppa. Before its transfer for scrapping on March 11, 2025, it had been ripped apart for usable parts to keep other GM locomotives in continuous operation.

TMY106 represents the enduring legacy of NOHAB locomotives, now serving under Tågab with its distinct Great Northern livery.
