Overview

DSB MZ 1448 is an iconic Danish diesel-electric locomotive and part of the well-known MZ family. It belongs to the second series of MZ locomotives, built by the Swedish company NOHAB under licence from General Motors (EMD).

For many decades, the MZ class formed the backbone of DSB’s heavy freight and passenger services. The locomotives are known for their considerable power and reliability. 

The DSB MZ 1448 belongs to the second series of the Danish State Railways (DSB) Class MZ locomotives, which were built by the Swedish manufacturer NOHAB under license from General Motors EMD.

Historic timeline

  • Arrived in Helsingør on 2 July 1977.
  • Operated in the eastern region from 1977 to 1988 and again from 1990 to 1993.
  • Operated in both the eastern and western regions from 1997.
  • Caught fire on 16 March 2001 while hauling a regional train near Høje Taastrup.
  • Transferred to Railion Danmark in 2001 and renumbered MZ 1448..
