This section focuses on the 185.2 series locomotives owned by DB Schenker Rail Scandinavia, formerly known as Railion Scandinavia, a joint venture between DB Schenker Rail Deutschland and Swedish Green Cargo. It outlines the units that were diverted from the ongoing delivery for DB Schenker Rail Deutschland, as well as the six units ordered by Green Cargo on January 16, 2008.
In February 2007, DB Schenker announced its intention to equip 17 new locomotives with a 'Scandinavia package' to facilitate cross-border services from Sweden to Germany via the Danish peninsula. The decision to utilize Traxx 2 platform machines was influenced by their enhanced cab isolation, particularly advantageous in Sweden's challenging environments. Consequently, the designated DB 185 321-337 locomotives were chosen to form the Scandinavian sub-series.
The construction schedule for locomotives 185 321 and 322 was adjusted, bringing forward their completion by around 4-5 months. This allowed for their first trials in December 2007, ultimately leading to the final approval of Traxx 2 machines with the Scandinavia package by the end of April 2008. The commencement of commercial services with the 'Scandi' 185s began in the third week of June 2008.
The locomotives with the Scandinavia package, designated as 185.2s, are jointly owned by DB Schenker Rail Deutschland and Green Cargo from Sweden. DB Schenker Rail Deutschland procured 17 units from the 185.2 series, while Green Cargo ordered six similar units in January 2008.
However, there were some modifications, leading to confusion regarding locomotive ownership. As per our understanding, locomotives 185 321-331 and 335-337 were delivered to DB's subsidiary Railion Denmark, while locomotives 185 332-334 were acquired by Green Cargo. All units were incorporated into the joint venture's fleet, Railion Scandinavia, which later became DB Schenker Rail Scandinavia in February 2009.
By that time, the six units ordered by Green Cargo had yet to be delivered. These units were designated as service numbers 185 401-406 and featured the standard red DB livery. To offset the three units provided to Green Cargo by DB, locomotives 401-403 became property of DB Schenker Rail Deutschland (not Scandinavia!), while locomotives 404-406 were allocated to Green Cargo and joined the DB Schenker Rail Scandinavia fleet.
