The Heljan 6060 set represents the train in its classic DSB Era V (Epoke 5) appearance, specifically carrying the running numbers MFA 5003 - FF 5403 - MFB 5203. 

The Heljan 6060 remains a highly sought-after piece of Danish model railway history, introducing a true design classic to model layouts. 

The Prototype

DSB Class MF (IC3)
The real-world IC3 train is a highly successful articulated diesel-powered train set designed by DSB and built by Scandia (later Adtranz / Bombardier). 
  • The Design: It is a 3-car fixed configuration consisting of two motorized driving cars (MFA and MFB) and a non-motorized center trailer car (FF). 
  • The Innovations: The train's most distinctive feature is its rubber-diaphragm front nose and folding steering desk. This allows multiple units to couple together in seconds, creating a wide-open passenger gangway through the entire length of the combined train. 
  • Bogies: It uses shared Jacobs bogies located between the carriages, meaning the cars share wheelsets to reduce weight and improve safety.
  • History: Delivered starting in 1988, the IC3 solved early teething software issues by 1990 to become the backbone of Denmark's intercity network, lauded for its rapid acceleration and flexibility.
